Silver Libertad Mintages

The Mexican Silver Libertads have relatively small mintages compared to other world bullion coins. The highest mintages occur for just two years when production exceeded the two million mark for the most popular one ounce size.

Significant mintage lows were recorded in 1998 and 1999 when production levels dropped considerably across all sized coins. Although the one ounce size would never revisit these lows, the smaller sized coins hit even lower mintage levels in 2007 before rebounding in more recent years.

Collector versions of the Silver Libertad offer exceptionally low mintage figures across several years of the series. During several different years, mintage levels are fewer than a thousand pieces, even for the one ounce sized coins. These issues now command a premium on the secondary market.

Despite the renewed popularity of the series in recent years, production levels for the proof versions remain quite low, particularly for the smaller sized coins. This may be an area to watch in the future if premiums begin to develop.
